    Introduction to science communication as a field and career options. Provide attendees with insight into various avenues to explore and professional development opportunities as they start their SciComm journey.

  • SciComm Foundations

    Workshop

    Participants will be introduced to the five pillars of science communication and identify key elements for each pillar.

    Participants will leave with a general understanding of SciComm theory and the ability to craft a one-sentence pitch about their research based on storytelling principles.

    Length: 60 – 90 minutes

  • Design Impactful Presentations & Infographics

    Workshop

    Learn basic design principles to craft a clean, concise, and visually impactful infographic or presentation using free tools such as Canva and Biorender.

    Length: 2 – 4 hours

  • Messaging & Storytelling

    Workshop

    Attendees learn how to make their message relevant, concise, and actionable to successfully communicate their ideas with interested parties.

    Length: 3-4 Hours

  • SciComm for Social Media

    Talk or Workshop

    During the talk, attendees will learn about science’s role in social media, the different types of visual mediums available, examples of well-made science videos, and the basics of producing social content.

    For the workshop, participants will additionally learn how to brand themselves and create a social post about their research.

  • Producing Science Media

    Workshop

    From identifying your audience to writing, recording, and post-production, participants will gain hands-on experience in fully developing a science explainer as a YouTube video or podcast episode.

    Workshop Length: 3 – 5 days

  • How to Talk to the media

    Workshop

    Participants will practice communicating their research to a news outlet, video/podcast interviewing, and craft an elevator pitch about their research.

    Length: 1 – 2 hours
