Workshops & Meetings That Built Community and Access

Challenge:
Graduate students and early career communicators lacked structured opportunities to build science communication skills and community within their networks.

What I Did:
After being a part of the inaugural ATL meeting as an attendee in 2018, I went on to organize and lead ComSciCon ATL 2019 and 2020. My duties included fundraising ($25,000 to cover attendee costs and housing), hybrid conversion to adapt to changing conditions, session programming, expert coordination, logo and itinerary design, and comprehensive event materials.

Outcome / Impact:
These events provided accessible, peer-led SciComm training and community building, empowering the next generation of science communicators with practical skills, mentorship, and network connections.
